The movie was produced in Argentina by Juan Jose Campanella. Being an animation film, the lip sinc was made for Spanish dialogue. Normally Pixar, Dreamworks and other companies made the lip sinc for english dialogue, and no other way around, so it"s strange for the americans to encounter a dubbed animated movie that doesn"t do it. (To be fair, we Latin americans always get your movies dubbed with no lip sinc, ALWAYS, so we don"t make a big deal about it. We just see them or switch to the original dialogue) Another thing, the story and dialogues looses to much spirit if you don"t listen it with the original dialogue. It isn"t Spanish, it"s Castellano, or Argentinian Spanish if you want. The argentinians have a very disntinct way of talking: They talk very rapidly, almost mumbling. When they discuss, it"s almost like a race about who made the quicker comeback, and mostly always the discussion it"s settled about who made the best joke for a comeback. Lastly, the movie wasn"t made to make very sense. In fact, it was made to touch a very sensitive matter in Argentina and Latin America, that with the changed dialogues it was lost: The football passion (soccer for America and others. The Argentinians and other countries have a very fanatic passion for football, almost religious. Most of the people who are fans of football go to the stadium and stay for hours shouting and expresing thir love for their teams. It doesn"t matter if you lose (altough it"s a boomer if you do and a party if you win) the passion it"s what guides the people to go to the cancha (field) and go all out for your team. The scene previous to the toys going into the field (the one who they end up shouting underdogs) in the original version it makes a dialogue that actually said something like this: How do you say when you are willing for everything? How do you say when rules don"t matter? When what it matters it"s friendship, our love for our land, the defense of the us? and the me, don"t forget the me- How do you say when there it"s only one option? To win! How do you call it? Captain: It"s called PASSION! See? That"s a very good dialogue. Conclussion: Before jumping to the box of bad movie and worst animated thing. See it in Argentinian Spanish, and you"ll find a very different movie that it"s not great, but very amussing and enterteined.
